Schengen visa: the documents you need, step by step

2025 · Wajez Team · Visa guide

Good planning saves you time and worry. Here's everything you need to apply for a Schengen visa with confidence, plus the latest updates for 2026.

Core documents every applicant needs

Before booking your appointment, make sure you have these ready — they apply to most applicants regardless of which Schengen country you're visiting.

  • A completed, printed and signed visa application form (VIDEX)
  • A passport valid for at least 3 months beyond your return date, with at least 2 blank pages
  • Two recent passport photos (within 3 months), 35×45mm, white background
  • Travel insurance covering at least €30,000, valid for your full trip and the entire Schengen area
  • A round-trip flight reservation — a real, verifiable booking; you don't need to buy the ticket outright
  • A detailed day-by-day travel itinerary
  • Proof of accommodation for every night of the trip (hotel booking or a host's invitation letter)
  • Bank statements from the last 3–6 months showing regular income and sufficient balance
  • A cover letter explaining the purpose of your trip

Details worth paying attention to

The number one cause of visa refusals is a missing or incorrect document. A few details worth double-checking:

  • Passport: check validity and blank pages right before booking
  • Insurance: must cover the whole Schengen area, not just one country
  • Flights: full payment isn't required, but the booking must be under your name and verifiable with the airline
  • Accommodation: must cover every night of your trip with no gaps
  • Requirements can vary slightly by embassy — always check the official checklist for the specific embassy you're applying through

Important 2026 updates

The Entry/Exit System (EES) went live in April 2026, replacing manual passport stamping at most external Schengen border points. ETIAS, for visa-exempt travellers, is expected to launch in the last quarter of 2026. Follow us for the latest updates before your trip.

Tips from the Wajez team

  • Apply early — ideally 4–6 weeks before your travel date
  • Make sure all your documents match exactly (name, dates, address)
  • Keep extra copies of every document
  • Talk to us before booking — we help you prepare a complete file and avoid common refusal mistakes
Note: This is general guidance — requirements can vary by nationality and embassy. Always confirm the latest requirements directly with the relevant embassy or consulate before applying.

Cairo in 48 hours: a full family itinerary

2025 · Wajez Team · Destination guide

Cairo is a city bursting with history and life — here's a well-paced two-day plan combining the pyramids, museums and markets, at a pace that works for families.

Day one — the pyramids and the museum

Morning: head to the Giza Pyramids and the Sphinx early (before 9am) to beat the heat and the crowds. A camel or horse ride is optional and a favourite with kids.

Midday: lunch at one of the restaurants near the plateau, with pyramid views.

Afternoon: visit the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) or the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir to see the treasures of the pharaohs — the Tutankhamun collection is a highlight for history lovers of all ages.

Evening: a Nile dinner cruise with folklore show — an enjoyable experience for the whole family.

Day two — the Citadel, the bazaar and the park

Morning: the Citadel of Saladin and the Mohamed Ali Mosque, with panoramic views over old Cairo.

Midday: shopping and lunch at Khan el-Khalili — a historic bazaar perfect for souvenirs, spices and handicrafts.

Afternoon (optional, for families with older children): a tour of Coptic Cairo to see the Hanging Church and nearby historic sites.

Evening: catch the sunset from the Cairo Tower or stroll through Al-Azhar Park, with stunning views over the city.

Important family tips

  • Best time to visit: October to April, when the weather is milder
  • Stay hydrated and wear comfortable, sun-protective clothing
  • Modest dress is recommended when visiting religious sites
  • A licensed guide and private transport make getting around much easier, especially with children
  • Book pyramid and museum tickets in advance to skip the queues
We'll arrange it for you: we can organise this whole itinerary — tickets, hotels, guide and private transport.

The best seasons to visit Turkey and Malaysia

2025 · Wajez Team · Planning guide

The right timing makes a big difference to your trip. Here's a simple guide to the best months to visit Turkey and Malaysia, by weather, crowds and prices.

Turkey — spring and autumn are best

April–May: mild weather (20–30°C), ideal for exploring Istanbul and ancient sites, with parks and gardens in full bloom.

June–August: peak season on the coast (Antalya, Bodrum, Fethiye, Marmaris) — hot, crowded and pricier, great for beach lovers but less comfortable for city touring.

September–October: pleasant weather in Cappadocia and Istanbul with plenty of cultural events — one of the best times to balance weather and price.

November–March: cold, and many coastal hotels close, but a great window for skiing in the mountains between December and January.

Malaysia and Kuala Lumpur — tropical year-round

Kuala Lumpur is a tropical city where rain is possible year-round, though some periods are drier than others.

June–August: among the best months to avoid heavy rain, with relatively sunny weather. December–January is another good option, with lower humidity.

There are two monsoon seasons: the Northeast (October–January) and the Southwest (May–September), but KL's inland location and surrounding hills reduce their impact compared to the coast. Rain is usually a short afternoon shower rather than an all-day drizzle.

Our recommendation for the honeymoon package (Turkey & Malaysia together)

If you're planning a trip covering both destinations, April–May gives you ideal weather in Turkey, while Kuala Lumpur remains pleasant to visit year-round with a chance of light afternoon showers — a great balance between the two.

Note: these are approximate seasonal patterns and can vary year to year. Our team tracks the latest forecasts and seasonal events when planning your trip.

Istanbul, Turkey

Best time to visit, top sights, and visa info

A city spanning two continents and two civilisations — from Hagia Sophia to the spice markets, Istanbul is one of the most requested destinations among Libyan travellers.

Best time to visit

April–May and September–October are the best windows, with mild weather ideal for exploring on foot. Summer (June–August) is hot and crowded, while winter is cold but quiet and cheaper.

  • Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque — Istanbul's two historic icons, a short walk apart
  • The Grand Bazaar and the Egyptian Spice Bazaar — for shopping and souvenirs
  • A Bosphorus boat tour — a unique view spanning the Asian and European continents

Visa & entry for Libyan passport holders

Libyan passport holders generally need a visa for Turkey. An e-Visa is available if you hold a valid Schengen, US, UK or Irish visa/residence permit; otherwise you'll need to apply through the Turkish consulate.
